History Population health is a unifying force for then health systems intervention from prevention and promotion to health protection, diagnosis, treatment and care. Population health integrate the balance and action between each of the following. According to the Public Health Agency (2015), â€Å"January 1997, the federal, Provincial and Territorial Advisory Committee on Population Health defined population health as the health of a population as measured by health status indicators and as influenced by social, economic and physical environment, personal health practices, individual capacity and coping skills, human biology, early childhood development , and health services.† Population health builds on a long tradition of public health and health promotion. In 1974, the federal government’s White paper, A New Perspective on the Health of Canadians, proposed that changes in lifestyles or social and physical environments would likely lead to more improvements in h ealth that would be achieved by spending more money on existing health care delivery systems. This report gave rise to a number of highly successful, proactive health promotion programs that increased the awareness of the health risk associated with certain personal behaviors and certain lifestyles such as smoking, alcohol, fitness and nutrition.
